Katy began as a broad prairie known by the name of Cane Island. In 1845 James Crawford acquired a land grant to settle in the area, but thick clay soils combined with scorching hot summers didn’t appeal to new migrants, taking a long time to develop.

The Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum is only one of the numerous museums that Katy has to offer. It occupies 9,600 square feet and was officially inaugurated in 2002 utilizing a traditional broad ax made from the binding thread. Along with vintage farm machinery, there are many historical photographs, interesting antiques, and artifacts from Katy’s agricultural and pioneer past on display. Special trips can be planned by organizations, clubs, and schools. Free entry is offered. A new library with 15,000 square feet was built in a lovely park setting by the City of Katy in 2003 thanks to a bond that the residents of Katy authorized. The cutting-edge facility provides an open, friendly ambiance that invites individuals to remain and read, study, relax, or browse the internet. It is designed for use and enjoyment by residents of all ages. Modern-day Katy has places of worship for all major religions and non-denominations, including Catholicism, Islam, Latter-Day Saints, Judaism, Hinduism, and Protestantism.

Due to the importance of faith in daily life, the historic city of Katy was originally referred to as the “City of Churches.”

In addition to the city’s dense concentration of churches, local historian Carol Adams claims that inhabitants there had ardent religious beliefs. A “City of Churches” flag that was put up by the city in the 1960s has since been taken down. 

The Houston Highway in Houston, Texas, is the widest in the world with 26 lanes. Eight feeder lanes, six controlled lanes, and 12 main lanes—six in each direction—make up the motorway. The controlled lanes are only open to single-occupancy cars for a toll during off-peak hours and are used by mass transport during peak hours.
